Ziehler Lawn and Tree Care’s Protector Program is guaranteed to protect your trees from the Emerald Ash Borer and provide a deep root fertilization to help promote good plant health, vigor, and root mass.
The Emerald Ash Borer is attracted to Ash trees when they are unhealthy and a pheromone is excreted.
The best defense against this plant pest is for the plant to be as healthy as possible. We use only the safest techniques and products to protect your trees.
Protector Program
- In late spring, Pointer insect control is injected into the tree every 4” around the top of the root flare (April-June). This is the least invasive injection technique to the tree.
- In the fall, the tree(s) will receive deep root or soil drench feeding, root stimulator, and systemic insect control (September-November). This provides overall plant health and insect control.
History/Facts
Emerald Ash Borer is a non-native species of insect that is destroying Ash tree populations. The borer came into the port of Detroit on pallets, and the first infestation in Detroit was identified in 2002. Since then, the borer has been infesting and killing Ash trees. The borer has spread by moving on vehicles, as well as the movement of firewood. The bottom line is that if Ash trees go untreated, they will become infested and die.
There are many different methods to treat for Emerald Ash Borer. To achieve the most effective control, a product needs to get into the transportation system of the plant, and there are two methods of doing this. The first method is a soil injection, which means the product will be taken up by the roots.
This process takes awhile to get the product from the roots to the top of the tree. The second and quickest method is by a trunk injection. Most methods on the market require drilling a hole, which causes damage to the living tissue of the tree.
At Ziehler Lawn and Tree Care, we use the Arbor System’s trunk injection unit, which requires no drilling into the living tissue of the tree, but still achieves quick uptake into the tree.
